Understanding Aspect Ratios
An aspect ratio represents the proportional relationship between width and height. Common ratios include 1:1 (Square), 4:3 (Standard Photo), 16:9 (HD Widescreen), and 9:16 (Vertical Story).
If you change a 1920x1080 (16:9) photo width to 800px without adjusting height, setting height manually to 500px stretches the subject vertically.
How Aspect Ratio Lock Automation Works
When aspect ratio locking is enabled in our Image Resizer tool, changing the width input automatically calculates the matching height using the formula: Height = Width / Original Aspect Ratio.
This guarantees that human faces, text logos, and product photos remain mathematically undistorted during resizing.
